The Lion With a Suit On?

We stand on trial for defrauding our Creator.

All things are His. Instead of returning to Him, having done the best we could with what He gave us, we have mistreated His creation and sold ourselves into sin.

Satan plays the role of an ambulance-chasing attorney who causes accidents to happen to drum up business – spiritually bankrupting all who fall victim to him.

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour" (1 Pet 5:8, Unless otherwise stated: Scripture is taken from the New King James Version®. Copyright © 1982 by Thomas Nelson, Used by permission. All rights reserved).

Your Adversary

This is a legal term speaking of the person who lays a judgment against you. He is a prosecuting attorney who has a case against every accountable soul, but he will also cheat to make his case. “Devil” means “slanderer.”

Walks About

He hasn’t changed in his carousing to find subjects for his plots. When God asked him where he had come from, in the days of Job, he said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it” (Job 1:7).

Like a Roaring Lion

This emphasizes his ferocity and relative indomitability to us. We should treat the presence of the devil in our lives as lightly as we would one of these angry, wild, enormous felines.

Seeking Whom He May Devour

Satan isn’t playing. He isn’t concerned about fairness and doesn’t want to give second chances. He wants to swallow you whole. This is unlike a lion, but it is like the snake he is.
