Change Your Boss Without Changing Your Job

You’ve got the best job!

Don’t think you have a job? You do.

Do you think there is nothing special about your job? You need to change your mindset.

You can change your boss without changing your place of work.

Fishing was a humble profession, but an important one. It fed people. But look at what Jesus did as He was changing some men’s job descriptions.

“And as He walked by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” They immediately left their nets and followed Him.
When He had gone a little farther from there, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending their nets. And immediately He called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went after Him” (Mark 1:16-20, Unless otherwise stated: Scripture is taken from the New King James Version®. Deciding to follow Jesus, their lives would forever be changed. Their careers were loftier with just a little shift in words. Our life’s ambition becomes heaven-bound with a shift in our perspective, even if our earthly life is inglorious.

Regarding this elevation of the fishermen, McGarvey exhorted,

“Jesus called them from a lower to a similar but higher labor. He calls all honest tradesmen in this manner. He invites carpenters to build his temple, servants to serve the great King, physicians to heal immortal souls, merchants to invest in pearls of great price, etc” (The Fourfold Gospel by J.W. McGarvey and Philip Y. Pendleton, pg 162).

Street sweeper or CEO, disciples of Christ are called to walk worthy of the gospel. In our vocation, we humbly, patiently, lovingly, and passionately serve in the Lord’s church, keeping the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace (Eph 3-4).

If you’re not happy with your job, you’re working for the wrong person.
