In James 3, we see the subject of the tongue emerge again, having been briefly introduced in chapter 1:19, 26. Wisdom is also mentioned at the beginning of the book, and it rounds out chapter 3.
Wisdom and controlling our speech go hand-in-hand. These characteristics of earthly and heavenly wisdom, listed in James 3:13-18, provide a training structure for our thoughts, words, and actions.
Considering chapters 1 and 3, what do you believe are some of the most important qualities we should develop to help correct our speech today?
It appears as though James says the tongue cannot be tamed. Could we appropriately apply Matthew 19:26 here?
“But Jesus looked at them and said to them, ‘ With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’”
